Mari Hutchings, the creative force behind The Painty Place, began her professional journey as a primary school teacher before transitioning into a career as a designer and artist. Her charming illustrations have graced English Heritage stationery, greeting cards, Christmas book tokens, and fabric designs.
Mari’s entrepreneurial spirit led her to establish Angelic Hen, a business dedicated to crafting wooden gifts adorned with her unique illustrations. Over two decades, she collaborated with esteemed clients such as English Heritage, Blooming Marvellous, Rick Stein, Blenheim Palace, Highclere Castle, and more than 160 shops across Britain.
During the lockdown, Mari co-founded Art Angels with her friend Karen. This initiative, supported by a community of artists, provided free art sessions to children in local villages via Zoom, bringing creativity and joy during challenging times.
The Painty Place originated at the Angelic Hen Workshop in Wyastone and has since relocated to its new home above Handyman House in Monmouth. Mari’s passion for teaching children and fostering their creativity continues to thrive at The Painty Place, where she delights in inspiring young minds through art.
